Discover the future in the energy sector

28.05.2018

Today, energy is accepted as an important factor in the development of countries. The importance of energy production and consumption has gradually increased, especially due to the rapid increase in the world's population and industrialization in today's world. As a country with a population of approximately 72 million and a significant industrial production potential, as well as a high energy need in many different sectors, the energy we consume constitutes one third of Turkey's total imports. Since energy is an important import item, the most effective use of energy resources is a definite need for the development of the country. In this context, the necessity of digitalization of the energy sector comes to the fore in ensuring the effective use of energy.

Rapid changes are taking place in the energy world.

Large organizations and even states, instead of using fossil fuels and energy produced from sources such as lignite and coal; It sets and achieves targets for supplying energy from renewable sources instead of using energy obtained from sources such as solar, hydraulic, wind and geothermal. Recently, innovative energy investments and studies such as electricity generation and storage from waves in the seas and oceans have attracted our attention. In addition, financial developments such as exchange rate changes increase costs and negatively affect profitability, especially for countries that import energy. In the energy sector, which contains these risks, a return should be made from the traditional grid approach to smart grids modernized with new technologies.

We see the use of internet of things technologies for the digitalization of network equipment. By using IoT devices and sensor technologies, outages and energy consumption, especially in meters, are measured with different communication technologies. The resulting data is evaluated on big data and analytics platforms and evaluations are made for customer usage behavior. This behavior is evaluated and modeled, and especially electricity distribution companies become closer to their customers through predictive studies such as customer-based tariff determination and offers. With the Internet of Things, downtime can be reduced or possible outages can be minimized, especially in refineries and electricity generation facilities, by collecting data from large machines and using predictive maintenance algorithms.

Thanks to Robotic Process Automation (RPA) solutions, which are also called robot software, and RPA, which is a software interface designed to imitate the same human interaction movements, performance increase and cost reduction can be achieved, especially in high-frequency repetitive tasks. In the energy sector, the use of RPA is becoming widespread in complaint management, invoicing and payment processes, correction of errors, customer transfers, transportation, accounting and reconciliation processes and human resources processes.

The use of big data and analytics provides savings to institutions in the energy sector and mining fields. In the field of mining, by combining data on a single platform, using big data and making data meaningful with analytical algorithms, simulations are made to reach mineral ores and costs are reduced with predictive studies. Likewise, data is processed with analytical algorithms and price optimization, demand forecasting, stock and cost optimization and customer loss analyzes are carried out to customers in the energy sector.

With the spread of blockchain technology, the digitalization of the energy sector will accelerate with benefits such as smart contracts and identifying the source of energy production.

As a result, the digitalization of energy, which has entered our lives as a basic need, and its more effective use is becoming increasingly important for the development of the country, and we can easily say that this is a necessity.
